Word to PDF, explained
Upload a .docx and get a tidy, print-ready A4 PDF. pandoc reads the structure of the document and WeasyPrint lays it out with the same clean typography as our Markdown to PDF export, so the result looks consistent rather than like a copy of Word's page layout.
What is converted, and how
- Headings
- Paragraphs in Word's Heading styles become PDF headings.
- Lists and tables
- Kept, with bordered tables and a shaded header row.
- Images
- Pictures stored in the .docx are embedded.
- Footnotes
- Collected at the end of the document.
- Links
- Stay clickable.
- Title and author
- Taken from the document properties for the title block.
Limitations
- Word's own layout is not reproduced: fonts, colours, columns, headers and footers and the page size make way for a clean A4 layout.
- Linked pictures (not stored in the file) and charts are left out.
- Only .docx; the old .doc format isn't supported. Up to 2 MB, and 15 MB once unpacked.
Tips
- Headings only come through when you used Word's Heading styles, not just large bold text.
- Need Word's exact layout? Use File → Save as → PDF in Word itself.
- The file is converted in an isolated, temporary workspace on our server and deleted as soon as the result has been sent back. It is never stored or logged.
