Markdown to PDF, explained
Paste Markdown and get a print-ready A4 PDF. Your document is turned into a styled web page and laid out by WeasyPrint, so the result reads like a tidy article rather than a raw export.
What is converted, and how
- Headings
- Large, clear headings; levels 1 and 2 get a thin rule underneath.
- Code blocks
- Shaded boxes with syntax highlighting when you name the language after the opening fence (
```python). Long lines wrap instead of being cut off. - Tables
- Bordered tables with a shaded header row and alternating row colours.
- Links
- Stay clickable in the PDF.
- Math
$x^2$is rendered as formatted text (x²) where possible.- Footnotes and task lists
- Footnotes are collected at the end;
- [x]items show as checkboxes.
Limitations
- Images are only included when they are embedded as
data:URIs. Images referenced by a file path or web address are not loaded: the converter never reads files or fetches URLs on your behalf. - No automatic table of contents or page numbers.
- Very wide tables can run past the right margin; A4 portrait fits about six columns comfortably.
Tips
- Force a page break with a line of raw HTML:
<div style="page-break-after: always"></div>. - The file name you type becomes the PDF's document title.
- Want a different look? Convert to HTML instead, edit the
<style>block and use your browser's Print → Save as PDF. - Not sure about the syntax? See the Markdown cheat sheet.
