Short version: the text you convert is used only to make your file and is deleted straight away. We don't store it, log it or look at it.

Who is responsible

The documents you convert
- When you click Convert, your browser sends the text, the chosen format and the file name to our server.
- The server converts it in a temporary workspace and sends the result back. The workspace, including the text and the result, is deleted as soon as the conversion has finished.
- Documents and file names are never written to our logs, never stored and never used for anything else, such as analytics or training.
- Files you open are read by your browser; only their text is sent.
Legal basis: carrying out the conversion you ask for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Please don't convert documents containing special categories of personal data (such as health data) unless you are allowed to share them with a service like this one.
Technical data
- Server logs. For security and to keep the service running, our web server logs each request: the time, the page requested, the response status and size, and network metadata. Request bodies and the content you send are never logged. Logs are rotated automatically and kept for at most 30 days.
- Abuse protection. To limit how often one address can convert, your IP address is kept in memory with a counter for at most one hour. It is not written to disk.
- Conversion records. For each conversion we log the format, the size in bytes, the duration and whether it succeeded, with a random request ID. These records contain no document content or filenames.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, reliable service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Cookies and advertising
This site currently sets no cookies and shows no ads. If that changes, this section will explain which cookies are used, and you will be asked for consent first where the law requires it.
Who else is involved
- Our hosting provider, Google Cloud EMEA Limited (region europe-west1, Belgium), runs the server in the EU and processes data on our behalf under a data processing agreement.
We don't sell your data and don't share it with anyone else.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Because we don't store documents, there is usually nothing we can link to you. To exercise your rights, email contact@markdown-converter.download.
You can also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be), Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels.
